I don't think St Anton is any harder than Zermatt and beginners are ok with it. My problem (twice) with St Anton is that they don't look after the pistes very well and the bus trip to Lech (20-30mins, easy) was a revelation, the pistes were like carpets. Just get a return fare bus which isn't too much as the free buses are something of a bun fight.
